Su Bong Zen Monastery provides Zen teaching and training through formal practice and together action in everyday life. Our community consists of lay students and monastics practicing together. The Zen center offers programs for beginners, precept students, residential training, novice and monastic training.

Formal practice consists of sitting and walking meditation, bowing, chanting and kong-an interviews. Programs are offered through daily practice, monthly and long-term retreats and events such as workshops and Dharma talks. Additional programs in work and volunteer training and community-building activities support our practice.

For Newcomers

If you are new to Su Bong Zen Monastery and wish to learn how to practice Zen, we invite you to register for an Introduction to Zen Meditation course which will be held at our Zen center in Causeway Bay on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The course is led by our Guiding Teachers, monastics and senior students who will introduce the way of Zen practice and the basic teachings of our school. The course dates and registration method will be released on our website. You may also contact our office for more information.

Once you have attended this Tuesday evening introduction course, then you are welcome to join other practice opportunities, such as one-day retreats at Su Bong and longer retreats at Gaksu.
